Cindy Sherman is a New York based photographer largely known for her self-portraits where she dresses up as a variety of characters. Born in 1954, some of her earlier work includes a series titled “Complete Untitled Films Stills” (1977-1980). Though Sherman never admits to be acting, she poses as characters from B-movie and foreign films in this series. These stills, seen below, depict the beginning of Sherman’s successful career as a self-portrait artist and serve as inspiration for my emulation project. Sherman is also known for using her photos as commentary on the social standing of women in society.
